Is the glass safe? Can it crack?
It is borosilicate — the same glass family used for laboratory and oven glassware — specifically because it tolerates rapid temperature change. It will not crack from normal boiling. Like any glass, it can break if dropped or knocked hard against a tap.
How do I get rid of the white scale inside?
Because the body is glass, you can see scale early and remove it easily. Fill with equal parts water and white vinegar, boil, leave for an hour, then rinse well and boil once with clean water before use. Once a month is plenty for most Kenyan tap water.
